DataGrid Accessibility Overview
DataGrid exposes row, column, sort and loading information. Keyboard behavior depends on enabled features; range selection adds cell navigation.
Keyboard interaction
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Tab / Shift+Tab | Move between focusable controls. |
| Arrow keys; Home / End | With cellSelection="range", move between data cells or to the first/last column. Ctrl+Home / Ctrl+End move to the data boundary. |
| Shift + navigation keys | Extend a cell range when range selection is enabled. |
| Enter | Start supported in-cell editing when editing is enabled. Editor controls retain their own keyboard behavior. |
In your application
- Set a meaningful tableOptions.caption, especially when several grids appear on a page.
- Label custom editors and action buttons. Connect validation messages to their controls.
- Keep trackBy IDs stable and retain visible focus when replacing remote data.
Keep focus indicators visible, check contrast with your theme, and test at browser zoom. Try the component examples using only a keyboard.
Current limitations
- The default grid does not implement the complete APG single-tab-stop interaction model. Range navigation is opt-in and does not cover every header, toolbar and custom template.
- Grouped rows, virtual windows and custom detail content require application-level keyboard and assistive-technology testing. Do not assume unrendered rows can be read by a screen reader.
This reference is based on the shipped source. It is not a WCAG conformance certificate or a claim that every browser and screen reader combination has been tested.
Compare your workflow with the W3C authoring pattern. The pattern describes the target interaction, not a guarantee of current component support.
