Form Builder and Drag Drop Accessibility Overview

Drag-and-drop items support keyboard reordering within their current list. Form Builder applications also need accessible editing and movement controls.

Keyboard interaction

Form Builder and Drag Drop keyboard behavior
KeyAction
TabFocus an enabled drag item.
SpaceBegin a keyboard drag.
Up / DownMove within the source list.
EnterDrop at the current position.
EscapeCancel and restore the original position.

In your application

  • Provide clear instructions before the list and meaningful item labels.
  • Offer move-to-list buttons for cross-list workflows and label generated form fields.
  • Verify move/cancel announcements in the complete application.

Keep focus indicators visible, check contrast with your theme, and test at browser zoom. Try the component examples using only a keyboard.

Current limitations

  • Keyboard cross-list transfers are not provided by the current item keyboard handler.
  • Custom Form Builder layouts need their own focus restoration and error associations.
