Masked Input Accessibility Overview
Masked Input uses a native text field with fixed-format validation and normal keyboard focus order.
Keyboard interaction
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Tab / Shift+Tab | Move into and out of the input. |
| Backspace / Delete | Remove editable characters across mask literals. |
| Text selection and paste | Replace a selected range or paste raw/formatted text. |
In your application
- Provide a label and a visible mask example linked through ariaDescribedBy.
- Explain whether the model includes literals and validate domain-specific rules.
- Make incomplete and invalid values understandable with application-owned error messages.
Keep focus indicators visible, check contrast with your theme, and test at browser zoom. Try the component examples using only a keyboard.
Current limitations
- ASCII slots only; no dynamic masks or country detection.
- IME input is validated after composition; non-ASCII text is rejected.
