Splitter Accessibility Overview
Splitter handles support keyboard resizing and expose their orientation and current size.
Keyboard interaction
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Tab | Focus a separator. |
| Left / Right or Up / Down | Resize along the layout axis by 2 percentage points when resizable is enabled. |
| Shift + arrow | Resize by 5 percentage points. |
| Enter / Space | Toggle the preceding pane when it is collapsible. |
In your application
- Give pane content visible headings and preserve focus when hiding a pane.
- Choose minimum sizes that keep controls usable at zoom.
Keep focus indicators visible, check contrast with your theme, and test at browser zoom. Try the component examples using only a keyboard.
Current limitations
- Handles do not currently provide a pane-specific accessible name or aria-controls relationship. These require a library API change.
- Home/End shortcuts are not implemented.
This reference is based on the shipped source. It is not a WCAG conformance certificate or a claim that every browser and screen reader combination has been tested.
Compare your workflow with the W3C authoring pattern. The pattern describes the target interaction, not a guarantee of current component support.
