Stepper Accessibility Overview
Stepper exposes the selected step and associated content. Use its Previous and Next buttons for keyboard progression.
Keyboard interaction
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| Tab | Reach the selected header and enabled navigation controls. |
| Enter / Space | Activate a focused step header or native navigation button. |
In your application
- Use descriptive step labels and label controls inside each panel.
- Validate application forms before advancing; the stepper does not validate them automatically.
Keep focus indicators visible, check contrast with your theme, and test at browser zoom. Try the component examples using only a keyboard.
Current limitations
- Arrow-key, Home and End navigation between tabs is not implemented. The current semantics do not imply full APG tabs behavior.
- Focus movement after programmatic step changes and disabled-step progression need application testing.
This reference is based on the shipped source. It is not a WCAG conformance certificate or a claim that every browser and screen reader combination has been tested.
Compare your workflow with the W3C authoring pattern. The pattern describes the target interaction, not a guarantee of current component support.
