Typeahead WAI-ARIA Support
Typeahead keeps focus in the input while moving an active suggestion. Selection and chip behavior depend on configuration.
Roles, states and properties
These describe the installed implementation. ARIA communicates meaning; keyboard handlers and application code provide the interaction.
| Element | Semantics | Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Input | combobox, aria-autocomplete="list" | aria-expanded, aria-controls and aria-activedescendant describe the popup and active result. |
| Popup | listbox | Contains the rendered suggestion buttons. |
| Suggestions | option, aria-selected, tabindex="-1" | Options stay outside the tab order while the combobox exposes the active result. The listbox exposes aria-multiselectable in multi-select mode. |
Current limitations
- Virtual result position/count announcements and multi-select focus behavior need further work.
- Multi-select, chips and virtual results need separate assistive-technology checks.
